Choosing a Topic/Thesis and Keyword Searching

In preparation for the session at UW Libraries, select a topic from AP Psychology that was covered or not covered this year.

***Your goal is to develop a research question that involves two keywords on a topic that interests you.***

Examples:

How does sleep affect athletic performance?

Do parenting styles affect academic success?

How does intrinsic motivation impact relationships?

What is the relationship between marijuana and schizophrenia?

Does exposure to violent media increase aggression?

Pick the keywords from your research question to form a search strategy:

For this question:

How does sleep affect athletic performance?

Your keywords could be:

     sleep        AND      "athletic performance"

     sleeping    AND     athletics

     sleep        AND     sports

     sleep*       AND      "high school sports"

___________  AND                       ?

After researching in the LMC, the final research question could be:

How does sleep affect athletic performance for teen athletes?

And the thesis statement might be:

Athletic performance for teens decreases with sleep deprivation.
